About Us

New Orleans Debre Mitmaq St. Mary’s Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church strives to fulfill the spiritual needs of its members by providing church and related services in a manner consistent with the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church’s faith, values, and traditions.

Our vision is to establish and maintain our own church here in New Orleans to provide spiritual service in accordance with the teachings of Christianity as adopted by the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.

We are now offering Orthodox Tewahedo religious services at least once every month according to the traditions and values of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.

In the long term, our goal is to build a strong Orthodox community in Louisiana that promotes the teachings of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo church, to offer Orthodox Tewahedo religious services every week, as well as to provide Baptism, Christening, Marriage, and Burial rites to members/followers of the Orthodox Tewahedo Christianity faith. We will also work to provide spiritual and cultural programs in order to increase understanding of the history, culture, and values of Ethiopia and the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.
